Daniel,
Thanks for sharing this lovely Psalm. I agree our focus is on the Lord and what it means to ‘fear the Lord’. It appears that our concern is not the blessings as those are the results but focus on the source of the blessings, right? What Hebrew word is used here for fear to help our understanding of the word?
The results of blessings are fruitfulness: personally, at home and with the world at large, particularly for the Jewish people, Jerusalem . A problem you brought up that the Psalm does not address is what if I lack these blessings in my life? Though by implication the Psalmist would have a person look at their own ‘fear of the Lord’ and not about obtaining the blessings themselves. We really can’t explicate what not being blessed means here but maybe in the book of Job or other parts of Scripture?
Also you mentioned the word ‘headship’ and again it isn’t what the Psalmist is addressing here. We all tend to bring our own assumptions, interpretations to Scripture when there is no implication about the issue in the passage. What do you think?
Do you think the Psalmist would say focus on the ‘fear of the Lord’ in my life and the blessings will come. Apparently he isn’t concerned about the lack of blessings but where the blessings come from.
